Mrs. Maude H. Doolittle, 88, formerly of 2 West Dillon Dr., Titusville, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Southwoods Assisted Living Community. Mrs. Doolittle was born Oct. 22, 1918, at Limestone, Pa., a daughter of the late N. Calhoun Hamilton and Blanche Beers Hamilton. She was married to Herbert L. Watson in October of 1935 at Elkton, Md. He preceded her in death in September of 1954. She was later married to George I. Doolittle Sr. on Sept. 2, 1960, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1985. Mrs. Doolittle had been employed for over 33 years at GTE Sylvania as an inspector in the quality department. Mrs. Doolittle was a member of Titusville First Presbyterian where she was an elder and deacon of the church. She was a member of the former Kerr Hill Presbyterian Church, a member of the Acacia Chapter No. 30 O.E.S., a member of the Titusville Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the YMCA. Mrs. Doolittle is survived by a son, Lyle A. Watson and his wife, Carolyn, of Centerville; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Vroman and her husband, Hugh of McKean; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Doolittle of Titusville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Hamilton and his wife, Elsa, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Gerwick of Emlenton and Mrs. Betty Wood of Grove City; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, George I. Doolittle Jr.; two brothers, Frank and Wilbur Hamilton; and two sisters, Mary Jordan and Goldie Morris. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Kerr Hill Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. |
