Tornado of 1977

Excerpt from Indiana Evening Gazette, 20 June 1977, Page 1:

A freak, destructive short-lived tornado ripped through the Rural Valley-NuMine area shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, leaving in its wake extensive damage to homes, trailers, barns and property.

Residents said the storm, accompanied by high winds and rain, came out of the west, touched down and lifted at various intervals in an eastward direction through one sector of Rural Valley and a portion of NuMine.

Most residents of the area said, "It was over before they realized what had happened."

Miraculously, no one was injured nor were any animals hurt ...
