Waltenbaugh Family Album
Generation 2. Robert Oliver Waltenbaugh.

Another great old picture from Chuck Colton's collection. Chuck gives us the following information about Mr. Waltenbaugh:
Robert Oliver Waltenbaugh was born May 22, 1884 near Rockville, PA and died on Feb. 11, 1967. He was the oldest of five children to Jacob George Waltenbaugh and Catharine Elizabeth (Schall) Waltenbaugh. When he started school he spoke “Pennsylvania Dutch” (German) and had a hard time learning not only to speak but to read English. He attended Rupp Lutheran Church and later the Simpson Church. Robert remembers his father finding enough money in two Indian graves to build his new house. Robert married Mary M. Condon (1893-1960) and they had no children. He didn’t believe in those newfangled automobiles. He and wife Mary still traveled by horse and buggy. Later in life, he lived in the one room schoolhouse along route 85. At this time it was still one big room inside. In 1960 his great niece, Donna Lee (Schrecengost) Colton stopped in to visit him with his sister Edith (Waltenbaugh) Schrecengost. After finding out she was expecting her first child, her Uncle Rob went in to the schoolhouse and brought out an old rocking chair for her to have. Donna still has that old rocking chair today.
