Generation 2. George Leon Stewart (1869-1954).

George Leon Stewart, usually known as 'G.L.' or 'Leon', was the son of John Cassidy and Mary Craig (Totten) Stewart and the husband of Laura Kerr Ambrose. This picture is undated and has no photographer's mark.
G.L. was determined to get an education. He decided to become a dentist, but money was hard to come by. He worked as a teacher and as a milkman to get money for college. After several years he was able to go to the Pittsburgh Dental College, a school which eventually evolved into the University of Pittsburgh's dental school. After he graduated, he returned to Rural Valley and set up practice. For the first few months, he practiced in the front room of the family home, 817 Main Street. The front room had previously been Dr. William Aitkins' office and has a separate entrance. Later he bought a little building across the street and turned it into a dental office. He was famous for his crowns, bridges and dentures.G.L. was a very kind and loving father and grandfather. He died of pancreatic cancer in August, 1954 and worked at his practice until a few weeks before his death. He and Laura, who died in 1951, are buried in the Rural Valley Cemetery.
