Civil War - Thomas Hosick's Letters to His Wife - 1864


Letters from Pvt. Thomas Hosick to Mary Ellen (Stewart) Hosick, February and April 1864. Thomas Hosick was mustered into Company K, 115th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers on 3 September 1862. He was killed at the Battle of the Wilderness between 8-10 May 1864.

The February 1864 letter was written from Camp Curtin, one of the largest Union training camps, located on the northern outskirts of Harrisburg, PA.

The April 1864 letter was written from Camp Distribution, aka the Rendezvous of Distribution, in Alexandria VA where Union men were sent to join their regiments on the battlefield.

These letters were donated by their great-great-great grandson, Neal Burgner, who also provided the transcriptions.
